WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Whitewater Kings will be playing in an international hockey game at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden on Friday, Nov. 30.

The Berlin Junior Hockey Club is playing a four-game series in the CCHL 2 and Central Canada Hockey League.

Jamie McConnell, general manager for the Kings, said there was an opportunity to play the Berlin team and he jumped at the chance, inviting the team here for a game.

“We are the very first game,” he said. “It’s a chance to give the players exposure to a different culture of hockey.

“It’s also a good chance to give back to the fans. They will get to see an international hockey game.”

McConnell added, “I think this could be the first international hockey game played in Whitewater.”

The Friday night event begins at 5 p.m. with a tailgate party in the parking lot hosted by Olmstead’s Home Hardware. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

While nothing has been officially set, McConnell is hoping to have special events throughout the hockey game for the fans.

Since the team has to pay to have Berlin play in Cobden there is a slight increase to the entry fee from the regular Whitewater Kings hockey games, McConnell said. It will be $10 for adults; $8 for students and seniors and $5 for children 12 and younger. If there are any individuals or businesses who would like to participate in sponsoring the game, call McConnell, 613-717-2710.

Following the game, there will be a meet and greet in the upstairs hall, which will be opened as usual during the game, he said.

If you can’t make the Whitewater Kings’ game, the other scheduled games are Saturday, Dec. 1 against the Alexandria Glens; Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Hawkesbury against CCHL Select Prospects and Wednesday, Dec. 5 against the Arnprior Packers.
