WESTMEATH — Whitewater Region council is not happy a job that was to be done by public works has not been assigned to an employee who is at work.
During last Wednesday’s council meeting, Councillor Daryl McLaughlin asked, “Where are we with the Westmeath sand dome and roof?”
Public works manager Bill Misener told council that an employee had been assigned to look after the Westmeath sand dome and roof, but has been off ill since mid-July. There is hope he will return in time to review the situation and something can be done, he said.
“It’s been on the agenda for three years now,” Coun. McLaughlin said. “I would really hope we are going to do something.
“I think it’s not really usable,” he added.
Mr. Misener said while the roof “is in bad shape,” the sand dome can still be used.
“We’re trying to figure out whether it’s cost effective to replace it or to fix it,” he said.
Mr. Misener said with the lead hand off ill, he has been busy dealing only with the jobs that are happening.
Mayor Hal Johnson said if the lead hand doesn’t soon return, the job should be designated to the other lead hand.
However, that employee is away for the next two weeks, Mr. Misener said.
Mayor Johnson noted time is of the essence with winter fast approaching.
