Turnout for library fundraiser was a shame

Dear Whitewater Community,

On Thursday evening, June 13 my friend and I had the privilege of being entertained by the members of Odyssey Theatre Troupe from Opeongo High School. They presented Encounters with Great Women of Shakespeare.

As the opening prologue heralded we were transported through time to Denmark, England and France. We romped through the mystical garden of a Midsummer Night and peeked in on the young star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. We were moved to tears by a mother’s grief, a daughter’s madness and a wife’s remorse.

The entire house rocked with laughter as young lovers under magical sway fought with words and fists. We met passionate women portrayed by young ladies who took on their roles with wit and enthusiasm. They were supported by equally talented, mostly, young men.

The youthful actors amazed us with their expressive immersion into their roles. How do they remember all those lines! The original minimalist musical score deepened our appreciation of Shakespeare’s language.  Great job!

Daniella Bell, David Bell, Andrew Lemieux, Luna Nordhold, Jordon Oattes, Mackenzie Reese, Taylor Reese, Carolyn Wyntenburg, Conrad Boyce and Jeff Scott; you were all amazing  Thank you. I might just have to reread the Bard.

As an added bonus we were supporting our Whitewater Region Public Library Board. Our local libraries provide invaluable service to our communities. Come out to borrow a book, jigsaw puzzle or a get a free museum pass. Investigate and you will find other neat things to borrow or enjoy at your library!

It was a shame that more of you were unable to turn out for this fine performance in assistance of this good cause.

With admiration,

Mrs. Jean Bird
