RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2019 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 23, 2019 and will continue until today. During the fourth week of the campaign, from December 14 to December 20 in 2019, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 37 R.I.D.E. checks throughout the detachment area.
On the evening of December 19, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m., police conducted a R.I.D.E check on Nelson Street in the City of Pembroke. A vehicle was observed to avoid the check point and turn the wrong way on to a one-way street. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver was arrested. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of this investigation 39 year old Christina Iadinardi of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg
- The driver was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with the following offences:
- Drive wrong way – one way traffic
- Drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit
In relation to the CC driving charges the accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on January 14, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
